Cookie Croissant Viral Recipe (Le Crookie)

Lapsa Shop

Cookies that are flaky, golden, and buttery, stuffed with chocolate chip cookie dough and topped with more dough, and baked until chewy and fudgy. The famous recipe from the bakery in Paris has been sped up for your convenience.

There are times when the easiest meals work the best. Also, popular ideas don't always work in real life. This recipe that went popular is definitely real and tastes great. Crusty bread and cookie dough are all you need. They are baked for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are golden, chewy, and fudgey. I've used croissants from the store and a simple recipe for chocolate chip cookie dough. Let's talk about it a bit before we get to the meal.

What is a Crookie?

When you bake a croissant and cookie dough together, you get a crookie. You could use fresh croissants, but ones that are a day old will also work. Cut them in half, open them up, and stuff them with chocolate chip cookie dough that has been mixed with butter. Bake until the dough is lightly golden, flaky, and just done. Do not bake these cookies for too long; they should be soft and gooey when they're done.

Who invented the Crookie?

In 2022, a Parisian bakery used to serve about 100 to 150 of these every day. Now, they make 1500 to 2000 every day. It was made by Stéphane Louvard of Maison Louvard on Rue de Chateaudun. He had the idea on a Saturday morning after baking a bunch of perfectly toasted croissants and wanting to do something fun with them. But it wasn't until 2024 that someone posted about these croissants on TikTok, and the video went viral, making the Crookie famous.

What do you need to do to make the cookie?

To make this dish, we need cookie dough and croissants. For this recipe, I used croissants from the store. If you want to make them at home, feel free, but make sure you use a good plain croissant that is all butter from the store or a restaurant. We need cookie dough. I used my recipe for single-serve chocolate chip cookie dough, but you can use your favorite cookie dough recipe or cookie dough from the shop. Brown butter is better than white butter when it's warmed. We also need yogurt, flour, corn flour, baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips for the cookie dough. I have used both chocolate chips and bits to make puddles of melted chocolate after the cake was baked.

What tools do you need to make the cookie?

The croissants need to be cut with a bread knife or a knife with serrations. With a plastic spoon, I made the cookie dough in a bowl. In the oven, the cookies are baked on a tray lined with parchment paper.

How to make the Crookie?

To begin, we heat the oven to 180℃ and set aside a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Put the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar in a mixing bowl and stir them together until they are well mixed. Then add the yogurt and mix it again. Mix the chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, baking soda, salt, and flour together. Take two big croissants and use a bread knife to cut them in half. Put some cookie dough inside each cookie, but save some for the top. Spread the croissants out on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookie dough is just set. Get them out of the oven, and if you want, sprinkle them with powdered sugar. Serve them hot or warm.

How to serve and store the cookie?

I like to serve these warm or hot without the icing sugar, but they should have a little icing sugar on top at first. With a cup of coffee or milk, they taste great. You can eat them for breakfast, lunch, a snack, or dessert. You can keep them in the airtight containers at room temperature for two days or in the fridge for five days after you make them. Put them back in the oven for a few minutes to make the cookie dough soft and gooey when you're ready to eat them. You can also heat it in the microwave for 15 to 30 seconds, but you have to eat it right away or it will get hard.
