I'm sure I'll make some Indians and Mexicans angry here. That being said, I'm only doing that to say that these nachos have completely changed my life. Those are big words, but I'm going to say them anyway. Simple and quick to make, this appetiser is great for when you need something quick to make. I like to get everything ready ahead of time and store it in bowls and boxes. When you're ready to serve, just add more of it.

You can change this recipe to suit your tastes by adding any chutneys or sauces you like. I also think you should use a range of toppings to make it your own and unique. This dish tastes a bit like Indian street food called chaat, but with a Mexican twist.

What are nachos?

Nachos are a simple veggie appetiser meal made with tortilla chips, cheese, and jalapeños. They come from Mexico. Today, there are a lot of different ways to make nachos. You can add sauces, ground meat, and many other things to them.

What is Indian chaat?

People all over the world love chaat, an Indian street food. Many different chaat recipes can be used. These are mostly vegetarian meals and include yoghurt, chaat masala, sev, potatoes, green coriander and mint chutney, date and tamarin chutney, and more. It could be a burger, vada pav, pani puri, or something else.

What are Indian nachos?

Indian nachos are the easiest and best veggie appetiser. They are a mix of nachos and Indian chaat.

What ingredients do you need to make these Indian nachos?

We used tortillas to make these nachos, but I made my own puris. Black beans, corn, jalapeños, shredded cheese, pickled onions, and fresh cilantro were fried in a pan and then added on top. I used yoghurt, tamarind date sauce, coriander mint chutney, and tomato salsa as sauces. Add sev and chaat powder on top.

What substitutes can you use to make these Indian nachos?

You can use tortilla chips instead of the puris, which is a tasty choice. You can add guacamole or avocados to this recipe as well; they taste great. You can leave out the green or tamarind chutney or use a different sauce for the nachos if you don't like them. You can use any cheese sauce you like instead of chopped cheese if you don't like the way it feels. You can use roasted peanuts instead of the sev if you don't have any on hand. You don't have to use chaat masala. If you can't find it, you can use cumin powder, coriander powder, and a little pepper powder instead.

What equipment do you need to make these Indian nachos?

That's all we need to make the chickpeas—a saute pan and a spoon. The rest is piled on the plate. I think a big plate would work best for you. Boil them, but I like to smash them in my hands. You might need a cutting board and knife to do that. You will also need spoons.

How to make these Indian nachos?

Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a sauté pan. Add the cumin powder, paprika powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Fry the chickpeas until they turn brown. Turn off the heat and set it aside. Spread the puris out evenly on a plate. Break up the boiled potatoes and put them on top. Mix in the black beans, corn, pickled onions, jalapeños, and cheese. Spread the salsa and chutneys on top, and then cover with yoghurt. Add sev, fresh cilantro, and chaat masala to the top to finish.

How do I make Puris at home?

Mix together 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, and a pinch of salt. Now, add ice-cold water one tablespoon at a time until the mixture is sticky enough to roll into a dough. It can be different, but I used 1/4 cup of water all together. While the oil is heating up in a stock pot, divide the dough ball into three equal parts. Roll out each piece to about 1/2 cm thick, then cut them into triangles. Fry them in hot oil for about one to two minutes, or until they are golden and puffy. Use cooking paper towels to drain the puri.

How do I make pickles at home?

Once the onions have been picked, cut them up and put them in a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and squeeze in half a lime. Then, use your hands to scrunch and break up the onions. Take a break for 5 to 10 minutes.

Serving and storing these Indian nachos?

The puris will get wet and soft if you don't serve these nachos right away. Put all the ingredients in cups and set them away. When you're ready to eat, all you have to do is put them together. After making these nachos, I wouldn't suggest putting them away because they won't last long. There are also times when I like to serve all the toppings separately so that each person can choose their own way to enjoy the puris.
